Ashley’s Christmas Tablescape

Kitchen table with holiday decorations

Minimal, modern and neutral—that’s Ashley’s style when it comes to all things holiday, including the dining room. She’s also a big believer in repurposing what you use all year-round with a few festive add-ons. That way you’re not trying to figure out storage for items you use once a year.

The Basics

  • Cotton napkins

  • Napkin rings

  • Neutral dinnerware and serveware

  • Glassware: Classic, colorful, vintage, modern or a mix.

  • Candles: Ashley loves taper and uses them all year long.

  • Simple ivory or white linen table runner.

The Trimmings

  • Fresh garland: If you’re in Oregon, we LOVE Frog Pond Farm in Wilsonville. Trader Joe’s also has REALLY affordable options!

  • Small ornaments that can be sprinkled in or plopped on top.

  • Red/White berries or holly from the grocery store. Sprinkle in as needed.

  • Dried oranges for a pop of color. Add a string of them or tuck them individually.

Ashleys Take on the Kids’ Table

If you want a simple option for younger kids, cover a coffee table or smaller kids’ table with white construction paper. Throw crayons and colored pencils into small jars or cups and voila! An instant kid-friendly tablecloth for coloring, drawing and doodling.

Paperware (plates, cups, napkins) for kids has come a long way and comes in so many amazing coordinating patterns and colors. Ashley loves everything at Meri Meri, but you can also find cute stuff at Dollar Store and Target. Use forks and spoons you already have and use all year-round. (Ashley loves Mushie!) Add a few honeycomb holiday characters (like these) for the centerpiece and… done!

If coordinating the kids’ table with the grown-up table is more your style, use many of the same elements, including garlands and festive table settings. Flameless candles and battery votives add a cozy touch. Disposable champagne flutes filled with sparkling cider are always a hit with older kids.
